A discovery-led blueprint for a fall-detection belt, caregiver monitoring apps, an admin portal, and a Shopify store working as one ecosystem.
People at risk of falls rely on help arriving quickly, and their caregivers rarely have a way to check in remotely. SmartHip Guardian set out to close that gap with a smart wearable belt, but the belt only matters if its signals reach someone. Hardware, cloud services, mobile apps, administration, and online sales all had to work as a single platform.
Our work began with discovery. We set up the hardware, evaluated the available SDKs and APIs, and put a proof of concept in place to confirm how the belt communicates. That early answer on device integration shaped every decision that followed.
From there we mapped the ecosystem: how wearers, caregivers, administrators, the cloud, and the Shopify store interact across the device lifecycle. The Flutter application was specified for both wearers and caregivers, covering pairing, activity tracking, battery monitoring, and continuous safety monitoring for falls, SOS activations, offline devices, and prolonged inactivity.
Emergency communication needed more than one path, so we designed an alert engine with channel-specific messaging across in-app notifications, email, SMS, and automated voice calls. A super admin portal was planned for device inventory, warranties, events, and crash reports, with Shopify covering product sales and belt package configuration.
An extensive discovery phase came before any build commitment, which meant the roadmap rested on evaluated hardware behavior. Assumptions were documented and agreed early.
Wearable integration was the biggest unknown in the project. SDK assessment and a proof of concept turned it into a known quantity before it could affect delivery estimates.
A single notification channel is a single point of failure when someone falls. Four channels carry the same alert, each with messaging written for that channel.
Firmware management was placed outside the mobile application scope, and one active device per user was fixed as an operating rule. Those boundaries keep the build focused and the estimates honest.
Wearers, caregivers, administrators, and customers each have their own interface needs. We mapped those journeys separately, which kept the platform coherent for every group.
