A HIPAA-compliant voice assistant with an interactive avatar that evaluates symptoms through conversation and points patients to suitable nearby doctors.
Patients rarely have a guided way to assess a health concern before booking an appointment. Fixed questionnaires miss context, form-based intake feels impersonal, and the search for a suitable doctor adds more delay. Our client in Washington DC wanted a telemedicine product that closed that gap between first symptom and first consultation.
We built Sarah from the ground up as a conversational AI health expert. At the center is a voice assistant with an interactive avatar, driven by generative AI and natural language processing, so patients describe symptoms by talking instead of filling in fields. The avatar carries the interaction and holds attention through the evaluation.
The evaluation logic adapts as the conversation goes. Questions follow the patient’s own answers, which lets the assessment reach the depth a predefined questionnaire cannot. Because the product handles health data, we built the whole flow inside a HIPAA-compliant system from the start.
Once the assessment completes, Sarah recommends nearby doctors matched to the condition and presents ratings and clinic details alongside them. Locations open directly in map applications, so a patient moves from evaluation to navigation without a separate search.
The decision to drive assessment through natural voice interaction rather than fixed forms shaped the entire product. Adaptive questioning produced better symptom understanding than a static flow could.
HIPAA requirements informed the architecture from day one, so handling sensitive health data was designed into the system instead of retrofitted around it.
Pairing voice with an interactive avatar addressed a real drop-off point. Patients stayed engaged through an evaluation that traditional intake forms rarely hold them through.
Doctor recommendations, ratings, clinic details, and map navigation were tied into the assessment output, so the product ends with a next step rather than a result screen.
